About GfE The Group for Evangelisation is simply a group. It seeks to help the churches work together. If it does undertake a particular Activities it does so on behalf of the wider church. Most of the activities go on behind the scenes as part of the ongoing work of The Group is served by a single officer, the Executive Secretary. The work is generally conducted by it's members in their ongoing roles. The key function is to fulfil the Swanwick Declaration agreed by Church Leaders in 1987: 'Our call is to witness that God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself. It is our conviction that, as a matter of policy at all levels and in all places, our churches must move from co-operation to clear commitment to each other ... in common evangelism and service to the world'. Above: The Group for Evangelisation at the meeting in January 2006 with Prof Alister McGrath Purpose The driving force of the Group for Evangelisation is the God given task of sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. We seek to do this together 'that the world might believe'. The Group exists to serve the church. However, most of the Group's purpose is worked in ongoing groups and projects as per the Activities page. It is a quiet work which goes on in the background, usually unnoticed as it co-ordinates the work of other people rather than it's own activity. NOTE: GfE is a coordinating group of Churches Together in England. As such it conforms to all of the legal and advisory procedure of Churches Together in England for all matters of employment, governance and good practice. Why GfE?
The national evangelism officers who serve the major churches in England naturally need to meet, pray, know each other, and work together where possible. GfE serves that need. It does not have a seperate agenda.
GfE is both a Think Tank and Project Management group.
The aim is to help churches, national, regional and local 'work together to share the good news of Jesus Christ'.
The Churches Coordinating Group for Evangelisation (GfE) is a coordinating group of Churches Together in England
What does GfE coordinate?
All of this work is in response to the Gospel and Great Commission of Jesus, and the work of Churches Together in response to the mandate given by national church leasders in the Swanwick Declaration.
