'For Gods sake say something!'
Report from the Annual Consultation May 7th 2009 Research headlines from Benita Hewitt, together with the report of the GfE Annual Consultation 'For God's sake say something!@ are on the CTE website: These are critical questions and they have life changing consequences. If you are in the network responsible for evangelisation come and join the national evangelism officers consider them. How is proclamation possible in the twenty first century? What are the issues? Preaching? Children? Media? Secular? Multi Faith? Can we talk about Jesus? Have we lost our voice? How is 'sin' perceived? Are we denying the Gospel if we dont use words as well as action? What can we say, and how, so that people will hear and respond to Christ? J John wil be in conversation with Paul Bayes from the Church of England, and Celia Apeagyei-Collins with Ian Bunce from the Baptist Union of Great Britain. They will provide a framework for the day and help us consider key questions. The consultation will continue with participants meeting in discussion groups led by other key contributers including Howard Mellor, Clare Ward, Mike Simonds, Andrew Graystone, Jonny Baker, Benita Hewitt, Colin Draper, Steve Hollinghurst etc.
We will meet at Methodist Church House, central London, 11.00-3.30 with lunch provided. The charge for the day will be £20 which includes the lunch.
Outcome? Much of the work will be done as we collate information, stories, examples of good practice before and after the day. We are producing Resource Papers for the wider church covering many of these issues. We pray that the main outcome will be a church better equipped to present the Gospel in a way that will help people hear the words and respond to Christ. The host for the day will be Graham Horsley who resources the Methodist Church for evangelism, and the Chair will be David Spriggs who is Bible and Church Consultant for the Bible Society. Graham Horsley, chair of GfE, says, 'For too long the pendulum has been swinging away from proclamation. Relational methods of evangelism are important, but to be the best, they need to be complemented by event based evangelism and a presentation of the word. This consultation will consider how to do that effectively in the 21st Century.' More details will be posted soon on this web page, and resources relating to the topic posted on this website. As we collate information, resources and examples of good practice, we shall circulate them for the wider church. If you have material to suggest, please contact the secretary. Come and join the consultation .. and pray together. |

..........
Why GfE?
The national evangelism officers who serve the major churches in England naturally need to meet, pray, know each other, and work together where possible. GfE serves that need. It does not have a seperate agenda.
GfE is both a Think Tank and Project Management group.
The aim is to help churches, national, regional and local 'work together to share the good news of Jesus Christ'.
The Churches Coordinating Group for Evangelisation (GfE) is a coordinating group of Churches Together in England
What does GfE coordinate?
All of this work is in response to the Gospel and Great Commission of Jesus, and the work of Churches Together in response to the mandate given by national church leasders in the Swanwick Declaration.
